About Simon
Simon Hussey was born into a farming family and grew up helping around the farm, as well as his father’s grocery and wine business.
At 10 he started his first enterprise – a rabbit farm – supplying the local shops (although his subsequent maggot farm was short lived!).
At 13 Simon developed an interest in racing pigeons, and shortly before attending university his birds won the equivalent of the Grand National, taking four out of the top five places. He sold the loft and prize-winning pigeons to fund his studies. No mean athlete in his own right, Simon competed at both national and international level.
After gaining a 2:1 in Geology and related sciences at Leicester University, Simon moved to Colorado for four years. He continued to combine his business and sporting interests, financing his participation in ski competitions through restaurant management and customer relations. It was in Colorado that Simon gained his strong belief in the value of good customer service in any successful business.
Simon returned to England to work for his father’s company before entering financial services in 1976 with Lincoln National. As one of the top salespeople over a number of years, he felt increasingly compromised in being tied to a single provider. In 2000 he established Lighthouse Group plc together with a small group of like-minded advisers. The company grew rapidly, gained FSA status, and now provides a wide range of IFA services to over 2000 clients. Simon himself now focuses on wealth management for around 50 of these clients.
With a deep understanding of fund structures and an intimate knowledge of the current IFA market, Simon enjoys integrating less mainstream investment options with best of breed funds.
